Discipline When Feeling Is Gone
“Exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
1 Timothy 4:7
My son, My daughter, today you may not feel like praying, reading the Word, or doing what you know is right. The feeling is gone, and you think that without it, there's no point continuing. I understand that emptiness more than you imagine.
But faith that lasts does not depend only on the feeling of the moment; it is sustained by the decision you make even when you feel nothing. It's like exercising a muscle: at first it hurts, it seems pointless, but it's exactly that repeated effort that strengthens what was once weak. Continuing to do good even without emotion is a deep form of faithfulness.
Don't wait to feel like it before doing what's right. Pray without feeling it, draw near to Me without feeling it, do what's right without feeling it, and let the feeling return in its own time, as the fruit of discipline. I am here, feeling for you, while you learn to walk by faith.
