Word of the Father · Day 282/366
When Nothing Is Ever Enough
“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
1 Timothy 6:6
I notice a strange weariness in you: you accomplish something and within a few days you're already eyeing the next thing, never pausing to savor what you've achieved. You buy something, and want to trade it in. You arrive, and already want to go further. You receive something, and already feel the lack of more.
This chronic discontent doesn't come from me. It promises satisfaction and never delivers, because its root isn't the object you're missing — it's an emptiness that only I can fill. There is no house, position, or achievement that can satisfy a soul that hasn't learned to rest in me.
I'm not asking you to stop growing. I'm inviting you, before you rush toward the next goal, to sit for a moment and give thanks for the one you've already reached. Godliness with contentment is great gain — greater than anything new that this anxiety promises to give you.
