One Thing at a Time
“But one thing is needful.”
Luke 10:42
The to-do list never ends. You barely finish one thing before three more appear, and the feeling is of always being behind, always owing something, always with your mind in ten places at once. That wears a person out on the inside, even without any physical effort.
My son, my daughter, I saw Martha running from one thing to another, anxious and troubled about many things, while Mary chose to sit at my feet. I didn't say Martha's tasks were useless — I said that one thing was needful above all of them.
Today, before you go running after everything, sit with me for a moment. Choose the one thing that's most needful right now, do that first, and let the rest wait its turn calmly. You don't need to solve your entire life before lunch. One thing at a time, with my company, is already enough.
