After Years of Silence
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Psalm 133:1
I know how many years have passed since the last real conversation between you two. Time went by, the original reasons for the falling-out have grown fuzzy, but the silence became a habit, and now breaking that habit seems harder than resolving the falling-out itself.
My son, my daughter, the more time passes, the more frightening taking the first step seems, because the distance has grown right along with the silence. You ask yourself: is there still time? Does it even still make sense after so long?
I say yes. Lost time hurts, but it isn't greater than the time that can still be lived in peace. A simple message can break years of silence: an 'I've been thinking about you,' an 'I miss you,' without needing to resolve everything at once. Let the first brick fall today. I'll take care of the rest of the wall, step by step, together with you.
