Word of the Father · Day 150/366

I Will Not Give Up on You

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

1 John 1:8-9

I have watched you give up on me a few times. Stop praying for weeks, doubt whether I really exist the way people say, pull away from church, from the Bible, from everything that reminded you of my presence. And even in those seasons, I never gave up on you in return.

My love for you isn't reactive — it doesn't shrink when yours does, it doesn't grow cold when yours does. I kept the breath in your lungs, kept tending to the details of your life, even when you closed the door on me. This isn't wounded pride hiding underneath; it's fatherhood that knows no giving up.

If today is the day you come back to talk to me after a season of distance, you don't need an elaborate speech. You just need to confess where you've been, and I, faithful and just, am already ready to welcome you back without charging interest on the time that was lost.
