The Hardened Heart Wants to Soften
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel 36:26
I've noticed you've been shielding yourself quite a bit lately, layer by layer. After so much accumulated disappointment, it became easier not to feel too much, not to care too deeply, to keep your distance before it can hurt again. The problem is that this protective shield also keeps out the good love trying to reach your life.
I understand completely why you built all this protection around yourself. But I don't want a heart of stone guarding you forever. I want to give you back a heart of flesh — one that truly feels, that isn't ashamed to be moved, that takes the risk of loving again, even knowing it might get hurt once more.
This transformation is my work, not your burden. You don't have to force yourself to soften all on your own, by your own strength. Just let me back into the cracks you sealed so carefully. I trade stone for flesh with the care of someone who knows exactly where it was pressed too hard before.
