Word of the Father · Day 245/366

Forgiving Before the Apology Comes

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Matthew 6:14

My son, my daughter, I know you're waiting for an apology that may never come. And that waiting is eating away at you inside more than the offense itself ever did. I didn't ask you to wait. I asked you to forgive.

Forgiving doesn't mean saying it didn't hurt. It doesn't mean pretending everything is fine. It means letting go of your right to collect on a debt that is only holding you captive. The other person may never understand the full weight of what they did. But you don't need their understanding to be free. You need my grace, which is already with you right now.

I forgave you before you even knew how to ask properly, before you understood the full weight of what you'd done. That's how I learned to love you, and that's how I want to teach you to love too. Let go of that debt today. Not for the other person's sake. For yours, and for mine.
