The Grudge That Poisons

Lest any root of bitterness, springing up, trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

Hebrews 12:15

My son, my daughter, the grudge you're holding onto isn't hurting the one who offended you. It's hurting you, every day, a little deeper. It's like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Meanwhile, your sleep suffers, your mood shifts, and good things in your life start tasting bitter without you even realizing why.

I know that root. It grows hidden, fed by memories you replay in your mind, by imaginary conversations where you finally say everything you should have said. But that root doesn't give you peace. It only spreads and contaminates even relationships that had nothing to do with the original offense.

Today I want to pull up that root together with you, not alone, because I know it hurts to tear out what has already made a home inside your chest. Give me your hand. Let's dig deep, remove what only serves to poison you, and plant something in its place that bears real fruit.
