Who Takes the First Step
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
One of the questions I hear from you most often is this: why do I have to be the first to take a step, if it was the other person who was wrong? It seems unfair to humble yourself when the fault wasn't yours. I understand that human logic, but I want to show you another one.
I took the first step toward you all along. You hadn't even been born yet, and I had already planned the way to reconcile you to myself, even knowing every sin you would commit. I didn't wait for you to deserve it. I came first, through my Son, to open the door that sin had closed.
Taking the first step isn't about who's right. It's about who has the courage to value the relationship more than their own pride. Peacemakers are called my children precisely because they do what I did: they choose to build bridges, even when they could stand waiting on the other side of the wall. Be that bridge today.
