Before Anything Else, Come to My Face First

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

Psalm 5:3

I love starting the day with you before it begins pulling you in every direction, with rush and demands. In the morning, before the notifications pile up, before the to-do list takes over, even before the first cup of coffee — I'm already there, waiting for your voice, waiting for your face to turn toward me before it turns toward the phone screen.

You don't need a perfect, silent morning with plenty of time to spare to make this happen. It can happen in the middle of the usual rush, still in your pajamas, with your coffee going cold on the table. What matters isn't the setting, it's the intention: seeking me first, presenting your day to me before you go off living it on your own.

Today, try presenting your day to me as soon as you wake up, even in just a few simple words: 'Father, this day is yours, come with me through it, from beginning to end.' I receive that like the first hug of the morning, the sweetest one of all.
