The Shame You Carry

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Romans 10:11

There's a scene from your past that comes back without warning — in the middle of the night, in the middle of an ordinary conversation, for no apparent reason. And with it comes the shame, as if that mistake still defines who you are today.

I know the whole scene, far better than your memory holds it. And even so, I chose to call you my son, my daughter. Shame likes to remind you of what you did; I'd rather remind you of what I've already done for you since then: forgiveness, a fresh start, new ground under your feet.

Whoever trusts in me will not be put to shame — will not be ashamed forever. That doesn't erase what happened, but it moves that mistake to a different place in your story: from sentence to a chapter already turned. Today, when shame comes knocking, I want you to answer with this truth, not with the usual silence.
