Run Looking Ahead

Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 12:1

My son, my daughter, I know this season of your life feels like too long a race, with no finish line in sight. You look at the clock, at the calendar, and feel like you should be further along than you are. That comparison has been stealing your peace today.

But I didn't call you to run a hundred-meter dash. I called you to a race that requires patience, a sustainable pace, not a desperate sprint. Some people run too fast at the start and give up halfway through. I would rather see you walking steadily, year after year, than see you burned out after one explosive burst of effort.

Set aside the weight that's slowing you down: the comparison, the rush, the pressure that isn't from me. Run at your own pace, with your eyes fixed on me, knowing I'm keeping track of every step you take. This race has a finish line, and I promise I'll be there waiting for you.
