Salmos 93

ARC · Chapter 93/150

Summary

A brief and vigorous hymn: the Lord reigns, clothed with majesty; even the mightiest waves of the sea cannot compare to God's strength, whose throne has stood firm from eternity.

Explanation

This is the first of a group of psalms (93, 95-99) known as the 'enthronement psalms,' which celebrate God's reign over all creation, possibly used in festivals commemorating divine sovereignty. In the imagination of the ancient Near East, the raging sea was a symbol of chaos and threat; by declaring that God is 'mightier' than the great waves, the psalm proclaims that no chaotic force in the world surpasses God's control. The application today is to find emotional stability by remembering that, however chaotic a situation may seem, God's rule remains firm.
