Day 16 — A Man After God's Own Heart
Heritage, Not Burden
“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
Psalms 127.3
This psalm calls children a heritage from the Lord, a reward He gives. In a world that sometimes treats kids as an interruption to career, rest, and freedom, Scripture says something else: they're a heritage, not a burden. That reshapes how you see the sleepless nights, the tantrums, the hard seasons, the time that feels "stolen" from other things you wanted to do. It isn't easy — raising children takes real self-giving, real exhaustion, patience that feels like it's running out. But this verse invites you to see each child as a reward, not an obstacle to your life — they're part of God's purpose for you, not a pause in it. Maybe you've caught yourself, at some point, looking at your kids with irritation over everything they "get in the way of." That's human, on hard days. But today, try to see again: every tight hug, every endless question, every silly laugh, is part of a reward God chose to give you. No one said being rewarded this way would be easy, but it's a reward all the same. Thank God today for the children He's entrusted to you, even on the hard days. They're a heritage — treat them like the treasure they are.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the children You've entrusted to me. Help me see them as a heritage, even on tiring days. Give me patience and joy to live out this reward You've given. Amen.
