Day 17A Man After God's Own Heart

Lead by Serving

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Mark 10.45

Jesus sums up the kind of leadership He wants to see in His followers with a line that contradicts everything the world teaches about power: the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. If the King of kings Himself chose to serve rather than be served, what kind of leadership are you exercising at home, at work, among friends? Culture likes to sell the image that being a real man means being in charge, being obeyed, having the last word without question. Jesus flips that logic upside down: for Him, leading means stooping down, serving, giving Himself for others. That isn't weakness — it takes more strength of character to serve than to dominate. Think about your home: do you lead by giving orders, or by washing dishes no one asked you to wash, listening without interrupting, yielding when you don't need to win every argument? At work, do you lead by crushing those beneath you, or by lifting up those who need help? Today, choose one concrete act of servant leadership — something no one will applaud, but that mirrors the heart of Jesus. Serving doesn't make you less of a man. It brings you closer to Christ.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to lead by serving, as You served. Take away my desire to be in charge and give me a heart willing to stoop down for others. Let my leadership look like Yours. Amen.
