Day 15A Man After God's Own Heart

As for Me and My House

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24.15

Joshua, now old, gathers the people and makes a declaration that still echoes centuries later: as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. He didn't force this decision on his family — he announced it as a leader, stepping forward in front of everyone to take responsibility for his household's spiritual direction. That's servant leadership in action: not control, but pointing the way and walking first. Many men hand off the spiritual life of the home to their wives, or simply let it happen on its own, with no direction at all. Joshua's example invites you to something different: taking on, with humility and firmness, the responsibility of guiding your household toward God. That can look simple — praying with your kids before bed, talking about faith at the table, being the first to ask forgiveness when you're wrong, taking the family to church even when you're tired. It isn't about being perfect or having every theological answer; it's about deciding, as Joshua decided, that your house is headed toward God, and you're walking in front. Today, ask yourself: what spiritual direction is my household taking, and how much of that depends on me choosing first? Declare, like Joshua, whom you and your house will serve.

Prayer

Lord, today I choose, as Joshua chose: as for me and my house, we will serve You. Give me courage to lead my family in the right direction, with humility and firmness. Amen.
