Day 29Closer to God — 365 Days

You Have a Shepherd

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 23:1

One of the oldest and gentlest images God uses to describe Himself is this one: shepherd.

And shepherds do very specific things. They know each sheep by name. They go after the one that wandered off. They walk ahead to check that the path is safe. They stay awake while the sheep sleep. They tend the wounds.

You have a Shepherd like that.

Not a distant God who watches from far away and takes notes. A near God who knows you by name, who goes looking for you when you get lost, who checks the road before you get there, who never sleeps while you rest.

"I shall not want." Not because everything will be perfect and easy. But because the One who cares for you is abundant enough to supply what you need at every step.

You are not a person lost in the world with no direction. You are a sheep who has a Shepherd.

Prayer

Lord, what a wonder it is to be cared for by You. Thank You for being my Shepherd — for knowing me, guiding me, protecting me. May I stay close to Your voice today. Amen.
