Day 189Closer to God — 365 Days

The God of All Comfort

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

2 Corinthians 1:3

Paul wrote these words after going through trials he himself described as "beyond his strength." He wasn't a man who had never suffered — he was someone who learned, through suffering, who God is.

And what he discovered was this: God is the Father of mercies. The God of all comfort. Not some comfort, not part of the comfort — all comfort. There is no pain beyond the reach of His ability to comfort.

That means that no matter what you're carrying today, comfort is available to you. Not because your situation will necessarily change right now, but because the One who is with you is greater than anything you're facing.

You can receive that comfort right now — in a word you read, in a whispered prayer, in a memory of God's goodness that comes to mind. He is comforting you today.

Prayer

God of all comfort, I receive Your care right now. I don't need to understand everything. I just need You. Amen.
