Day 135Closer to God — 365 Days

Forgiveness That Casts Into the Sea

He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Micah 7:19

Micah used one of the most powerful images to speak of God's forgiveness: the depths of the sea. That place no one reaches, where light never comes, from which nothing returns.

That is where God casts your sins. Not into a drawer that can be reopened. Not into a memory that eventually resurfaces. Into the depths of the sea.

That is radical. Because we tend to hold on to our failures — and sometimes we assume God holds on to them too. That He keeps track of every slip and will call it in someday.

But this verse speaks of active mercy: God acts upon our sins. He tramples them — like someone crushing something underfoot. And casts them into the depths of the sea.

The past you still carry with guilt can be handed over today. It has already been cast into the sea. You don't need to dive after it anymore.

Prayer

God, thank You for a forgiveness that isn't half-hearted. You cast my sins into the depths of the sea — help me stop diving after them. Amen.
