Day 136Closer to God — 365 Days

Engraved on the Palms of His Hands

Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

Isaiah 49:16

This is one of the most intimate images in the entire Old Testament. God speaks like someone who engraved a name into skin — something permanent, visible, always present.

The context is one of abandonment. Israel was saying, "The Lord has abandoned me, the Lord has forgotten me." And God answers with this question: can a mother forget the baby still at her breast? Even if she forgets — I will not forget you.

And then comes this image: I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.

Have you ever felt forgotten by God? As if your prayers rose and no one heard? As if life was happening without Him caring?

This verse says you are engraved. Not just remembered — engraved. Like something that is always before God's eyes.

You have never left His sight. You have never slipped from His memory. You are engraved on the palms of the hands that created the universe.

Prayer

Lord, when I feel forgotten, may I remember this promise: I am engraved in You. Thank You for never losing sight of me. Amen.
