The verses around Proverbs 18:24.
22Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
23The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Verse explanation
The first half of the verse has an uncertain translation in the original Hebrew — other ancient versions read something like ‘a man with many friends may come to ruin,’ quite different from what this translation suggests. The second half, about a friend who sticks closer than a brother, is clear and does not change between translations.
