Day 20 — Mornings with God
Create in Me a Clean Heart
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10
David prayed this after one of the worst mistakes of his life. It wasn't a small failure. It was a great, heavy betrayal, with consequences that lasted for years.
And he went to God. He didn't run. He didn't hide. He didn't try to fix it alone. He went to God and asked: "Create in me a clean heart."
Create. Not "repair." Not "clean up a little." Create. From nothing. The Hebrew word is the same one used for the creation of the world. David was asking for a work of God in his life, not a patch job.
Are you carrying something today that needs this prayer? A bitterness that won't pass, a pattern of sin that feels too big, a heart hardened by disappointments?
Don't carry it alone. Don't torment yourself. Go to God the way David did — honest, unadorned — and ask Him to create what you cannot manufacture.
He creates things out of nothing. The clean heart you need is already on His list of works to do.
Prayer
God, create in me a pure heart. I have no way to do this on my own. I need Your work, not my own efforts. Renew in me what has grown old and weary. Amen.
