Day 11 — Mornings with God
The First Hour
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”
Psalm 5:3
We return here. Because this image of the psalmist presenting himself to God in the morning is so human, so concrete, that it needs to be lived again.
Presenting yourself. Like someone arriving for a meeting. Like someone knocking on the beloved's door and saying: "I'm here."
Not with a list of requests in hand. Not with a report of everything that happened. Just: "I'm here."
How many times do you begin the day without presenting yourself to God? Not out of ill will — but because life drags you along. You wake up and you're already on autopilot: kids, coffee, lunchboxes, out the door.
The morning slips away and God was left waiting.
Today, even if it's only one minute, present yourself. Say: "Lord, I'm here. Will You receive this day, this life, this morning?"
Then wait. The psalmist waited after presenting himself. He waited for the answer. He waited for direction. He didn't rush off.
Present yourself. Wait. Let God speak back.
Prayer
God, here I am. I don't have much to offer besides this morning and this heart. But I am presenting myself — with everything I am and everything I cannot be. Receive me. Amen.
