Day 10 — Mornings with God
Singing in the Morning
“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,”
Psalm 92:1-2
In the morning, lovingkindness. At night, faithfulness. The whole day embraced by praise.
Have you ever woken up with a song in your head? Sometimes it happens and you don't even know where it came from. But there's an ancient practice, older than any app or playlist, of beginning the day by singing to God.
I'm not talking about performance. It doesn't need to be in tune. It can be that song you learned as a child, that hymn your grandmother used to sing, that praise song that played on the radio last week and stayed tucked in your heart.
Singing transforms the morning. Something opens up when you put your voice into the air, even if it's just under your breath so you don't wake the family. Praise prepares the heart for the day in a way words alone cannot.
It is good to give praise. The psalmist says it simply: it is good. Like a meal that does you good, like a hug that restores you, praise is good for the soul.
Try it today. One song. One verse. One humble melody offered to God.
Prayer
Lord, may my morning begin with praise. Open my mouth to declare Your goodness before I declare anything else. May Your faithfulness be my song today. Amen.
