Day 9 — Mornings with God
Awakened Ears
“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”
Isaiah 50:4
He wakens my ear. What a beautiful image.
God doesn't just wake up our body in the morning. He wakens our ears. The ears of the heart — that capacity to hear what He is saying, to perceive His voice in the midst of everything.
And notice: this happens morning by morning. Not just once. Not when you deserve it. Every morning God offers this awakening of the ears.
But there's an implicit condition: you need to be quiet enough to hear.
Today the world is going to offer you a lot of noise. Music, news, conversations, problems, social media. All of it arrives together the moment you wake up, and within seconds your mind is already processing a thousand things.
Before you let the noise in, open up a space of silence. It doesn't need to be long. It can be while the coffee brews, while you look out the window, while you take the first steps of the day.
In that silence, say: "Lord, I'm listening."
And listen.
Prayer
Father, waken my ears this morning. Drive away the noise that keeps me from hearing Your voice. I want to be taught by You before I am taught by the world. Amen.
