Day 48 — Healing for the Heart
Turning Mourning into Dancing
“Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness.”
Psalm 30:11
David wrote this looking back, after already crossing through the valley. There was a time when he wore "sackcloth" — the garment of mourning, of deep sorrow. And there was a day when God traded that garment for gladness. Notice: it was God who made the exchange; David couldn't do it on his own. Maybe you're still wearing your sackcloth and can't even imagine dancing again. That's all right. David couldn't imagine it either, in the middle of his night. But the same God who turned his mourning into dancing is your God too. He hasn't left you in mourning forever. The day will come when you'll look back and say, surprised: "He turned my weeping into joy, and I didn't even notice when it happened." Don't force the dance now. Just trust the One who removes the sackcloth at the right time. Your joy is on its way — and it's named after God.
Prayer
Lord, I'm still wearing the sackcloth of sorrow. But I believe You turn mourning into dancing. Make that exchange in me, in Your time. I'm waiting for the joy. Amen.
