Day 41Healing for the Heart

Don't Give Up on Doing Good

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 6:9

Pain can harden a person. After suffering so much, it's tempting to close your heart, to stop caring, to think it's not worth loving, helping, or giving of yourself again — after all, it was giving of yourself that got you hurt. But today the Word makes you a gentle request: don't give up on doing good. Don't let the wound turn you into someone you're not. The world hurt you, but you don't have to give the world back hardness. Staying kind after being wounded isn't naive — it's courageous. And there's a promise: in due season, you will reap. The good you sow, even weary, is not lost; it returns, at the right time. Don't let what was done to you put out the light inside you. The best antidote to a bitter heart is a heart that refuses to stop loving. Keep going. The harvest is coming.

Prayer

Lord, don't let this pain harden my heart. Give me strength to keep doing good, even when I'm weary. I trust that, in Your time, I will reap. Amen.
