Day 40 — Healing for the Heart
The Gratitude That Heals Little by Little
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Notice this carefully: the verse says give thanks in everything, not for everything. God isn't asking you to thank Him for the loss or to pretend the pain was good. He's inviting you to find, in the middle of it all, something you can still be grateful for. And that, slowly, heals. Gratitude doesn't erase the pain, but it takes away its monopoly on your heart. When you can say, "this hurts, but I still have this, and this, and this," sorrow stops filling the whole screen. Don't force it, don't pressure yourself — start small. Today, find three things, however small, to be thankful for: the air you breathe, someone who stayed, a roof over your head, a morning. Gratitude is like a lit candle in a dark room: it doesn't end the night, but it lets you see there's still light. Little by little, gratitude by gratitude, the heart relearns how to breathe.
Prayer
Father, in the midst of what still hurts, help me see what I still have. I thank You for the small things that hold up my day. Heal me through gratitude. Amen.
