Day 26 — Healing for the Heart
Forgiveness Is a Process, Not a Switch
“Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?... I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
Matthew 18:21-22
You may have already tried to forgive, and the next day, the hurt came back — and with it came the frustration: 'I thought I was over this.' Take a breath: forgiveness is rarely a switch you flip once. It's more like a decision you make again every time the memory returns. When Jesus spoke of forgiving 'seventy times seven,' He wasn't only talking about forgiving many people, but perhaps many times over the same wound. Every time the pain resurfaces, you hand it over again. Needing to forgive the same thing more than once isn't failure; that's how healing works. Don't shame yourself for still feeling it. You're not back at square one — you're slowly loosening a knot that was pulled tight. Every time you choose to let go, even again, that's a victory.
Prayer
Lord, I thought I had already forgiven, and the pain came back. Give me strength to let go once more. Help me forgive as many times as it takes. Amen.
