Day 20Healing for the Heart

Speak to Your Own Soul

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him.

Psalm 42:11

There are days when sadness speaks louder than everything else inside you, and you believe every word it says. Learn today something the psalmist did: he talked to his own soul. Instead of only listening to despair, he answered it. "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? Hope thou in God." This isn't denying the pain — he acknowledged the downcast feeling. It's simply not letting the pain have the last word. You can recognize what you feel and, in the same breath, remind your soul where hope comes from. When your thoughts pull you down today, don't swallow it all in silence. Speak to yourself with God's truth: "this hurts, but it isn't the end; I will yet praise Him." Sometimes healing begins when we stop only listening to fear and start preaching hope to ourselves.

Prayer

Lord, when sadness cries out inside me, help me answer with Your truth. My soul waits on You. I will yet praise You. Amen.
