Day 19 — Healing for the Heart
Quenching the Thirst of the Heart
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”
Psalm 42:1
There's an emptiness that food doesn't fill, that distraction doesn't silence, that busyness doesn't solve. You've tried patching that hole in a thousand ways and it's still there, throbbing. It's a thirst of the soul — and the psalmist, in the depths of sorrow, discovered that only God can quench it. Notice: he wasn't doing well when he wrote this. He was downcast, his soul "disquieted." And even so, instead of running to whatever might numb the pain, he ran to God. A weary deer doesn't pant after just any puddle; it seeks the spring. Your heart, today, may be looking for relief in places that only leave it thirstier. Come back to the source. Only God fills the emptiness that only He can fit into. There's nothing wrong with feeling this thirst — it's your heart pointing you home.
Prayer
God, my soul thirsts for You. I'm tired of seeking relief where I can't find it. Satisfy my heart. Be my spring. Amen.
