Day 88Strength for Mothers

What You Choose to Remember

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Psalm 136:1

Gratitude has to do with memory. With what you choose to remember on hard days. On dark days, it's easy to catalog everything that went wrong, every disappointment, every fear. But the psalms teach us another way to live: remembering the goodness of God.

"His mercy endureth for ever." Psalm 136 repeats that phrase twenty-six times — once for every verse. As if God knew we would need to hear it again and again before we truly believed it.

Think back over the recent years of your motherhood. Where did you see the hand of God? When did He send help at just the right moment? When did a conversation happen and you knew it wasn't a coincidence? When did your child escape something, and all you could say was "thank God"?

Those memories are testimonies. Keep them. Write them down if you need to. And on hard days, open that list and remember: the God who was faithful yesterday will be faithful today.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for every time Your hand sustained me. Help me remember Your goodness when the weight of the day feels heavy. Amen.
