Day 28 — Strength for Mothers
Grace Enough for Today
“Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Matthew 6:34
Jesus said this in the Sermon on the Mount, right after talking about not worrying over tomorrow. And He was direct: each day has enough trouble of its own. Don't try to carry tomorrow's weight today.
The mother who lives in the future is suffering over things that haven't happened yet — and might never happen. And while she suffers over the imagined, she loses the real present: the child who is here, the moment that exists now, the grace God has measured out for today.
Grace doesn't come stockpiled. It's daily. Like manna in the desert — enough for today, fresh again tomorrow.
When you try to carry tomorrow's grace today, it feels like it's missing. Because it really is missing — it hasn't arrived yet. But when you live in today, you discover there's exactly what you need to get through this day.
Is today not easy? There's grace for today. Does tomorrow have its own problem? There will be grace for tomorrow too.
Stay here. In the present. With God.
Prayer
Lord, help me stay in today. May I not waste the grace of this moment worrying about what hasn't come. Let this day's grace be enough — and it is. Amen.
