Day 27Strength for Mothers

He Carries the Weight

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

Burden — that word in the original carries the idea of everything that weighs you down, that oppresses, that steals your sleep. And God says: cast it on me.

Not hold onto it. Not carry it. Cast it.

There's something in the physical act of letting go that the soul needs to learn. Because we're good at throwing things and then picking them back up. At praying and then continuing to carry the weight. At confessing and then ruminating.

But the verse doesn't say you cast it and He hands it back after examining it. It says He sustains. He takes the weight and holds it. And you go on without it.

What are you carrying today that isn't yours to carry? A child's health that you don't control. The future of a child who's made choices that worry you. A marriage that's struggling. A loneliness that won't go away.

Today, make an act of faith: cast it. Say it out loud, if you need to. Write it down if that helps. Cry if you need to. But let it go.

Prayer

Father, I let it go. [Name here what is weighing on You.] This is Yours now. I trust that You will sustain what I can no longer hold. Amen.
