Day 66Marriage Devotional

Near the Brokenhearted

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Sometimes marriage breaks your heart. A betrayal, a harsh word that never should have been said, an expectation that went unmet, a disappointment you never saw coming. And the pain is real — there's no need to minimize it.

What the Psalmist says is surprising: when the heart is broken, God doesn't move away. He draws near. It's as if brokenness opens a door that pride keeps shut.

If your heart feels heavy today — over some hurt in your marriage, over something that wounded you deeply — know that God is near. Not to fix everything right away, but to be with you in that pain. To be the comfort that no person can ever fully be.

Letting Him find you in that place is the beginning of healing. And often, when we let God comfort us, it becomes easier to receive or offer comfort to our spouse as well.

Prayer

Lord, here is my broken heart. I know You are near me in this moment. Heal what needs healing — in me, in my spouse, between us. Be our comfort. Amen.
