Day 54Marriage Devotional

Submitting to One Another

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Ephesians 5:21

Before Paul talks about the roles in marriage, he lays down the principle that governs everything: mutual submission. Both of you. In the fear of God. It's not a one-way street where one serves and the other receives. It's the dance of Christian marriage, where each considers the other — with respect, with care, with reverence for God. When both partners carry that spirit, the marriage finds its balance. Hard decisions get easier, because it's not a power struggle, it's a conversation between partners. Mutual submission doesn't erase either person's identity — it creates a space where both can be fully themselves within a "we" that is greater than either alone. And that only happens when God is at the center.

Prayer

Father, may our marriage be governed by mutual submission in Your fear. May neither of us seek to dominate the other, but may both of us desire to serve one another with genuine love. Amen.
