Day 53Marriage Devotional

I Am My Beloved's

My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

Song of Solomon 2:16

This short phrase from Song of Solomon is one of the most beautiful in the Bible. It speaks of belonging — not of ownership, but of mutual choosing. "I am his and he is mine." In marriage, this awareness needs to be renewed. It isn't automatic. Routine, exhaustion, and disappointments can create a silent distance where two people live in the same house but no longer truly feel like they belong to each other. When was the last time you felt, with joy, that you belong to him — and that he belongs to you? That belonging is a gift. And like every gift, it needs to be treasured. Look at him today with the eyes of someone who still chooses him. Because the love that keeps on choosing is the most beautiful love of all.

Prayer

Lord, renew in me the joy of belonging to my spouse and of having him belong to me. May routine never dim the wonder of having been chosen and of continuing to choose. Amen.
