Day 52Marriage Devotional

Encouraging Without Ceasing

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Encouraging your spouse is one of the most practical ways to love him. Not the empty encouragement of someone who praises everything indiscriminately, but the genuine encouragement of someone who sees the effort, recognizes the worth, and says out loud what she thinks. Your spouse needs to hear from you — more than from anyone else — that you believe in him. That you respect him. That you're proud of the man he's becoming. In a world that demands so much and affirms so little, home should be the place where the two of you build each other up. When was the last time you told him something that truly built him up? It doesn't have to be elaborate. One sincere sentence said today can change his whole day — and the climate of your marriage.

Prayer

God, make me someone who encourages her spouse. May I not wait for him to be perfect before recognizing what he already does well. May my words build him up every day. Amen.
