Day 39 — Marriage Devotional
Sweet Words
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
Proverbs 16:24
There are days when marriage feels mechanical. You talk to each other just to sort out logistics: who's picking up the kids, what's for dinner, the bill due tomorrow. And the words left over for him end up being the most practical and the least affectionate. The Proverb reminds us that pleasant words nourish the soul — and that's not a luxury, it's a necessity. Your spouse needs to hear words from you that go beyond the functional. He needs to know that you still see him, that you still enjoy being with him, that you still admire something in him. It doesn't have to be an elaborate declaration of love. Sometimes it's a heartfelt "I'm so glad you're home." Sometimes it's a touch on the shoulder while he's watching TV. Small acts of affection are a honeycomb — sweet and nourishing for the marriage.
Prayer
Father, remind me to speak sweet words to my spouse. May the busyness of daily life never snuff out the tenderness I feel for him. May I be a source of encouragement to him, and not just of demands. Amen.
