Day 9Peace in Place of Anxiety

God Is Near to Those Who Feel Broken

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 34:18

When anxiety tightens its grip, it's easy to feel like God is far away — up above, distant, busy with people whose faith is stronger. But today's Word turns that idea upside down. God isn't closer to those who look strong and have everything under control. He is near to the brokenhearted. In other words: the place where you feel most fragile, most shattered, most without ground beneath you, is exactly the place where God draws nearest. Your brokenness doesn't push God away — it draws Him in. Your tears don't embarrass Him — they move Him. If today you feel like you're in pieces, lift your eyes: what you're feeling isn't distance, it's God's presence drawing near to your brokenness. You don't need to pull yourself together to be loved. He specializes in coming close precisely when everything seems to be falling apart. Wherever you are most fragile, He is closest.

Prayer

Father, I feel broken — and I believe Your Word: this is where You draw nearest. Gather up my broken pieces and save my downcast spirit. Amen.
