Day 56 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
God Is Doing a New Thing
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:19
Maybe you feel like you'll be stuck forever in this place of fear — that anxiety is a life sentence, and peace is something for other people, never for you. But listen to God's promise: 'Behold, I will do a new thing' — in the present, right now, as you read this. And more: 'now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?' Sometimes God has already begun changing something in you, and you haven't even noticed yet, too busy staring at the problem. Notice the bold image: 'I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.' God doesn't only work where the ground is fertile; he cuts a road exactly where there seemed to be no way out, makes a river spring up exactly where there was only sand. The driest place in your life — that spot where you swore nothing would ever change — is exactly where God loves to do a new thing. Your story with anxiety is not finished; God is writing a different chapter. Today, open your eyes to the new thing he is already doing. Where you only see desert, he is digging a river.
Prayer
Lord, I believe I am not condemned to fear. You do a new thing, and open a way even in my desert. Give me eyes to see what You have already begun. Amen.
