Day 55 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
Not by Might, But by the Spirit
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6
How much of this journey against anxiety have you tried to win by sheer willpower? 'I need to stop worrying,' 'I have to have more faith,' 'I'll try harder to trust' — and when it doesn't work, frustration and self-condemnation come, only making everything worse. But today's Word points to the secret: victory 'is not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit.' Peace is not something your determination achieves; it's the fruit of God's Spirit working in you. You don't produce peace by straining; you receive it by opening space for God to act. This lifts a huge weight off you. It means you don't need to be strong enough to defeat anxiety on your own — you only need to surrender to the Spirit, who does within you what your own strength never could. Like fruit on a tree, peace grows naturally where the Spirit dwells; it isn't wrenched out by force, it's cultivated by his presence. Today, stop fighting for peace by brute strength. Ask for the Spirit. Let him do in you what you cannot do alone.
Prayer
Father, I give up trying to defeat anxiety by my own strength. Fill me with Your Spirit and produce in me the peace I cannot manufacture. Do within me what I cannot manage on my own. Amen.
