Day 54 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
The Anchor of Your Soul
“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.”
Hebrews 6:19
Hope in God is compared to an anchor. What a perfect image for someone living with anxiety. A boat without an anchor is a toy of the waves: it goes wherever the wind pushes it, tossed by every storm, adrift. That's how the anxious mind feels — shaken by every piece of bad news, carried off by every 'what if,' with no firm ground. The anchor doesn't stop the waves from coming; it stops the boat from being swept away by them. Hope in God works the same way: it doesn't promise an always-calm sea, but it keeps your soul fastened to something firm while the storm passes. And where does this anchor take hold? Not in the shifting sand of circumstances, but in the unchanging faithfulness of God, who does not move with the wind. The waves of life will keep coming — but you are not adrift. Your soul is anchored to the One who does not move. Today, when you feel you're being shaken, remember that you have an anchor, 'sure and stedfast.' The waves rock the boat, but they don't loosen the anchor. You are fastened to God, and he does not move.
Prayer
Lord, in the stormy sea of my mind, You are my anchor. The waves shake me, but they do not sweep me away, because I am fastened to You. Steady my soul. Amen.
