Day 5 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
When Fear Comes in the Night
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
Psalm 56:3
There's a fear that keeps a schedule: it arrives when the house goes quiet and you're left alone with your thoughts. In the middle of the night, everything looks bigger. The problem that had a normal size during the day becomes a giant at night; the headache becomes an illness; the delay becomes a catastrophe. If this happens to you, know that it isn't madness or a lack of faith — it's just your tired mind without daylight to put things back in their place. David knew these nights. And notice what he does: he doesn't promise to never feel afraid again. He says something more honest and more powerful — what time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee. Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's what you do with it. You can feel afraid and, at the same time, hold on to God's hand. Today, when fear arrives, don't fight it. Turn it into a prayer: "I'm afraid, Lord — and even so, I trust in You."
Prayer
Lord, in the hours when fear tightens its grip, I choose to trust. I can't push all fear away, but I can hand it over to You. Guard my heart. Amen.
