Day 42Peace in Place of Anxiety

God Is in Her Midst, He Will Not Fail

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Psalm 46:5

Notice the exact promise in this verse: "God shall help her, and that right early." Some translate it "at the break of day" — the idea is of help that arrives at exactly the right time, neither too soon nor too late. Anxiety wants God's help ahead of schedule: you want to know right now how the problem three months from now is going to work out, and since God hasn't shown you yet, you panic, assuming He's going to fail. But God rarely helps early; He helps on time. The grace for tomorrow's trial arrives tomorrow, not today. And that's why today you still don't feel the strength for it — because you're not there yet. When you get there, the help will be there too, punctual as the sunrise. "God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved." You may not see the way out right now, but God has already set the hour of your rescue, and He is never late. Today, rest in this certainty: your tomorrow will not catch you alone. At the right break of day, His help will already be standing by.

Prayer

Lord, I trust Your timing. You help at the right time, never too late. Take from me the rush of fear and teach me to wait for Your punctual help. Amen.
