Day 40 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
Today Is the Day He Made
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
Anxiety has a fixed address: either the past, replaying what has already happened, or the future, fearing what hasn't come yet. The one place it almost never lives is the present — the now, this day. And that is exactly where God is. Today's verse doesn't say "next year will belong to the Lord" or "yesterday belonged to the Lord"; it says, "this is the day which the LORD hath made." Today. This ordinary day, with its tasks and its challenges, was made by God and handed to you as a gift. When you spend the whole day living in tomorrow, you miss today — and today is the only part of life you can actually live. The past is gone; the future hasn't arrived; only the now is in your hands. "We will rejoice and be glad in it" — in this day, not in some perfect day that may never come. Today, make a gentle effort to return to the present: notice one good thing that exists right now, in this moment. A warm cup of coffee, a child nearby, the air in your lungs. God is in today. Don't miss the present while waiting for tomorrow.
Prayer
Lord, bring me back to today. This day is Your gift, and I don't want to waste it living in tomorrow. Teach me to rejoice in the now. Amen.
