Day 18Peace in Place of Anxiety

Open Your Hands in Prayer

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Philippians 4:6

Notice the exchange that the Word proposes. It doesn't just say "don't be anxious" — because telling yourself to stop feeling something doesn't work. It says: instead of anxiety, prayer. Every time worry rises, turn it into conversation with God. Anxiety is a prayer turned inward, replaying the problem with yourself, a thousand times, never arriving anywhere. Prayer is the same problem, but turned outward — handed over to Someone who can act. It's the same energy, but sent to the right address. Notice also: "in every thing" and "for nothing." Nothing is too small to bring to God, and nothing is too big for Him to bear. Today, try something. Every time you catch yourself dwelling on a worry, stop and say out loud: "Lord, I turn this worry into a request." Open your hands like someone letting go of what they were gripping. The difference between an anxious night and a peaceful one is often just this: who you told your fear to.

Prayer

Lord, I stop dwelling and start praying. What consumes me inside, I hand over to You as a request. Receive my petitions and quiet my heart. Amen.
