Day 11 — Peace in Place of Anxiety
Trade Your "What If" for His Presence
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”
Psalm 23:4
Anxiety speaks only one language: the language of "what if." What if it goes wrong? What if he gets sick? What if I can't handle it? What if the worst happens? It's an endless staircase of bad scenarios that you climb at night, step by step, all the way to despair. Notice that "what if" always lives in the future — in a tomorrow that doesn't yet exist and may never come. David also walked through dark valleys, but his confidence wasn't in knowing what lay ahead. It rested in a single present certainty: Thou art with me. He doesn't say "because the valley is short" or "because nothing bad will happen." He says "because You are with me." The answer to "what if" isn't a guarantee that everything will turn out fine. It's a Presence that goes with you no matter what happens. Today, every time your mind fires off a "what if," answer with a greater truth: "...even so, You are with me." That's the argument that silences fear.
Prayer
Father, when my mind starts climbing the staircase of "what if," hold my hand. I don't know tomorrow, but I know You go with me. That is enough. Amen.
