Day 87 — Goodnight, Lord
The Embrace That Holds You Up
“The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.”
Deuteronomy 33:27
Imagine being held by arms that never grow tired, never loosen, never let go. That's the picture God offers for your night: underneath your whole life, holding you up, are the everlasting arms. When your strength runs out — and it will — it isn't emptiness that catches you, it's the arms of God. You can let yourself fall into them without any fear of falling. They have existed forever and will exist forever, strong enough to carry you and everything you fear. Tonight, instead of trying to hold on with your own tired hands, let yourself fall into those arms. There is no safer place. Rest, held up by an embrace that never ends. The everlasting arms won't let go of you during the night — they are holding you now and will still be holding you when you wake up.
Prayer
Lord, underneath everything, Your everlasting arms are holding me up. I give myself into them without fear of falling. Carry me tonight and give me safe rest. Amen.
