Day 81 — Goodnight, Lord
The Rest of Those Who Trust
“But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me... I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”
Psalm 3:3-5
The psalmist wrote these words surrounded by trouble, with enemies on every side — and still he was able to lie down and sleep. How? Because he knew who his shield was. His rest didn't come from the absence of threats, but from the presence of God as protection. It's the same for you. Your night may arrive surrounded by worries that seem to give no relief. Even so, you can lie down and sleep, because you have a shield around you. It isn't calm circumstances that make sleep possible; it's trust in God. Today, even with troubles surrounding you, choose to trust like the psalmist did. God is your shield, and He sustains you while you sleep. Lie down and sleep. Wake up tomorrow knowing you were watched over the whole night by the One who never lowers His guard.
Prayer
Lord, You are my shield. Even surrounded by worries, I lie down and sleep, because You sustain me. Guard me tonight and let me wake in peace. Amen.
